As part of the Centre of Archaeology’s broader work on the subject of cultural genocide and Holocaust killing sites, we are working closely with Rohatyn Jewish Heritage. Rohatyn Jewish Heritage is a volunteer-led program of heritage preservation and education, working to re-connect the history of Rohatyn’s now-lost Jewish community with the people and places of the modern town.
We visited Rohatyn, Ukraine in May 2017 to conduct a non-invasive archaeological survey of the Jewish cemetery and mass grave sites. The aim of the project was to define the geographical boundaries of the mass grave sites and identify mass graves within the northern Jewish cemetery.
